Guernsey Butchers : Lambert

Origin

• William Lambert, born in Haselbury Bryan, Dorset, in 1816, the son of Joshua Lambert & Ann Bullen.  He died in Guernsey on 18 Apr 1848 age 32 following an accident on a horse (see below). In 1841, he was single and living with George Lambert and his family - I assume that they were brothers, but have yet to prove this.

Other Information

• William died before his son was born. There follows excepts from a letter discovered in an old desk in Canada, which appears to be to his son from a cousin.
• "...The only thing she could tell me was that he was a butcher, and she thought had a shop in the meat market.  He was a fairly tall man and very good looking."
• "She told me that your father was killed, he would ride a spirited horse, which he was persuaded not to, the horse took fright on St Martin's road, threw him all down this 'George Road'."
• This accident is also mentioned in the Guernsey newspaper 'The Star' of 14th April 1848.
