Guernsey Butchers : Hellier
|
|
Origin
William Hellier and his wife Jane were both
born in England, and emigrated to Guernsey. Their eldest son,
Frank, was born in England - the rest of their children
were born in the island. It is likely that L Hellier, who holds a
market stall in 1845, is William's father, since he takes over
the stall by 1861. By 1874, the spelling of their name had been
transformed into HILLIER.
At least three of their children took up the
profession. In the 1881 Census, Agnes, Susan and her husband
Joseph Yearsley, and their son George were all described as
butchers. George HELLIER held his own market stall in 1891.
