Origin
Obviously a corruption of the famous Devon
BASKERVILLE surname. In 1835, when he was buried in the cemetery
of St André de la Pommeraye, James BASKFILL, age 70, was said to
have been born in Plymstock, Devon.

Guernsey butchers who signed a petition to the Privy
Council, urging them to approve the construction of the
new market building.
- Joseph BASKFILL held stall 4 in 1826 (1826
Commercial Directory).
- Charles BASKFILL held stall 16 in 1845
until his death in 1856, when the stall was taken over by
his wife. She held the stall until 1870.
- Mrs Ann BASKFILL held stall 4 in 1845 and
remained there until her death in 1857 at the age of 81.
